Dubai 23 November 2016,UAE, Marking the Innovation Week 2016, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of Dubai Airports, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline & Group and Honorary Patron of Dubai Quality Group, Fatma Buti Al Mheiri, Chairman of Dubai Quality Group (DQG) has announced the launch of the UAE Innovation Award during a press conference held in Le Meridien Hotel Dubai by DQG on Wednesday morning in the presence of VIPs and representatives fromlocal and international media.
H.H. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of Dubai Airports, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline & Group and Honorary Patron of Dubai Quality Group said “The UAE Innovation Award is the latest addition to Dubai Quality Group programs aiming at improving the competitiveness of the private sector organizations.” Under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and with the wise guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice- President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; DQG worked relentlessly, since its inception in 1994, to develop and promote quality and business excellence practices in the private and government sectors throughout the UAE and the region.
His Highness added: "The Dubai Quality Group is proud to launch this Innovation Award, in addition to the other DQG programs such as UAE Ideas, Ideas Arabia and Emirates Women Award.", stressing that “this award is in harmony with other national initiatives within the framework of UAE Vision 2021 and national innovation strategy, aiming at promoting innovation and driving sustainable development in the country. Innovation is a viable investment to make UAE a global innovation hub, bringing great benefits to our future generation, and improving the country’s competitive position in the global innovation index”.
His Highness expressed his full confidence that the award will promote a culture of innovation throughout companies in the private sector and raise their level of innovative practices based on integrated innovation framework and standards. It will also support companies to strengthen their innovative capabilities and create sustainable value to their customers and the society at large.
His Highness said "the accelerated changes in technology, the ever rising expectations of customers and the complexities of the market place makes Innovation the critical success factor for business continuity and sustainable success.
During the press conference, Fatma Al Mheiri, Chairman of Dubai Quality Group, stated that the award is focused on the private sector, and will invite submissions from both DQG members & non-member from various industries as the first cycle of the award starts in 2017. Participation to the award is open to companies in the following industries: Health and Wellbeing, Education & Learning, Technology & Communication, Transport, Social & Community Development, Retail & Consumer Goods, Financial Services, Heritage, Art & Culture, Sports & Recreation, Real Estate & Construction, Manufacturing, Tourism & Hospitality, and Professional Services.
Fatma Buti Al Mheiri also stated that the UAE Innovation Award will provide the participating companies with the opportunity to:
· Demonstrate top management commitment to Innovation
· Spread innovation culture throughout the company
· Adopt a structured innovation framework
· Gain understanding of their own innovation maturity
· Receive professional Assessors’ feedback, which will help companies to develop roadmap to improve innovation
· Receive public recognition and appreciation through innovation award
· Recognize their outstanding innovative teams and staff members
Companies applying for the award will submit a comprehensive application before September 2017, which will be evaluated by award independent assessors against three main sets of criteria – Innovation Infrastructure; Innovation Enablers; and Innovation Results, followed by site visits. Winners will be announced and honored at the award ceremony in November 2017 said Fatma Buti Al Mheiri, Chairman of Dubai Quality Group.
The award participating companies will be classified into five levels (one star to five-star), based on the level of their innovation maturity and the scores achieved.
She stressed that the Dubai Quality Group will always be committed to ensure the transparency and impartiality of the assessment process and results. This will be achieved through a careful selection of qualified independent assessors and jury members.
Concluding the press conference, she called on all private sector companies to familiarize themselves with the award framework, criteria and participation terms and conditions, which will be posted on the award website to be launched soon.
The press conference was attended by a number of guests and award team, including Dr. Kasim Kanakri, CEO of Team Power International, consulting firm that oversees the development of the general framework and the development of the award criteria.
