Dubai Police HQ, Emirates National Oil Company Limited (ENOC), Emirates Global Aluminium and John Crane Middle East, were announced winners at the symposium
Dubai, 04 November 2016, UAE: 12 winners honored by DQG at the 8th Continual Improvement & Innovation Symposium 2016, which organized by DQG’s Continual Improvement Subgroup, where industry experts provided insight into Innovation and Quality. The symposium was a platform to enhance and facilitate sharing, recognizing and learning from best practices and actual case studies in continual improvement from various sectors, and was held at Le Meridien Dubai.
The Symposium showcased the best and brightest ideas implemented across the UAE based on the core concepts of Quality and Innovation, under the categories of Kaizen, Innovation, Lean Six Sigma and Best Practice Management.
The Symposium featured Keynote Presentations in Kaizen & Innovation, Presentations by Case Study Competition finalists, followed by the much anticipated awarding ceremony, where the winning submissions of the case study competition were announced and appreciated, marking the closing of the event.
Fatma Buti Al Mheiri, the Chairman of Dubai Quality Group, said “We are delighted to successfully conclude the 8th Continual Improvement & Innovation Symposium this year commemorating the World Quality Month, as well as the UAE Innovation Week. The symposium gave an opportunity to exchange ideas and share best practices, highlighting the prominent role of Business Excellence & Innovation in enhancing productivity and growth in the business world. This year we received more than 60 Case Studies, with an active participation from both Public and Private sectors. After a final assessment of the competition finalists on the day of the symposium, 1 winner was announced and awarded in each category at the close of the event.”
The winning trophy, as well as the Second & Third places in Kaizen Category were secured by Emirates Global Aluminium, for their case study submissions titled “To reduce the Process time of Crust breaker overhauling in Jebel Ali Plant”, “Reducing Coke pre heater screw assembling time and cost by 50%” and “Recover Energy From Phase # 2 HRSGS” respectively.
The winner’s trophy in the Innovation category went to Dubai Police HQ for their project titled “Electronic Awareness Games”, followed by Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority in the Second Place for their case study “Robotic Camera for Facility Maintenance”, and Emirates Global Aluminium in the Third Place for their project “Steam Turbine 14 Auxiliaries Standby Feeder from SS426 During Transformer & MCC Replacement (Without Shutdown)”.
Emirates National Oil Company Limited (ENOC) came out as the winner of the Lean Six Sigma Category for their project “Model Forecourt - Improving Productivity”, with Dubai Police HQ at the Second Place for their project “The improvement of the maintenance process procedures of Dubai Police light vehicles according to the methodology of 6 sigma”, and Al Futtaim Finance PVJSC at the Third Place for their project titled “Second Set TAT Reduction Project”.
Winner of the Best Practice Management Category was announced as John Crane Middle East FZE for their project titled “Enterprise Excellence Implementation Success Story”, followed by Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority securing both Second & Third places for their projects “Smart Waste Management” and “Sub Surface Irrigation Technology” respectively.
His Excellency Saif Humaid Al Falasi, Group CEO of ENOC said, “This recognition from Dubai Quality Group is testament to ENOC’s commitment to continuously enhancing performance and improving customer experience. We are especially pleased that the winning project benefits our customers significantly as it reduces waiting time at the petrol stations by substantial reduction. Queuing at the petrol station is an industry-wide challenge that we are committed to alleviating by investing in projects and innovations such as Six Sigma and ViP, which allows customers to pay through cashless transactions.”

The results of innovation are customer orders and financial success, but it is great to also be recognised by Dubai Quality Group in this way.”

The prominent speakers were Sallyann Della Casa (Lead Tree Shaker, Growing Leaders Foundation) who presented a valuable speech titled “Embedding a Strategy of Innovation across your organization”, and Marc Karschies (Managing Partner, KCA Consultants), who spoke on “Kaizen in an innovative environment - why there should be a difference”.
